Herpes is an insidious virus that finds its way into the body by contact with a person carrying it. There are several different forms of the virus. Herpes simplex, cold sores and genital herpes, and the related virus, varicella-zoster virus, which include chicken pox and shingles, are probably the best known.

The first recorded case of herpes dates back over 2,000 years when Tiberius, the Roman Emperor, banned kissing because there was an outbreak of oral herpes, cold sores. Today there are better ways to stop the spread of herpes. There is a natural cure for herpes and many ways to prevent outbreaks of both oral and genital herpes.

Herpes natural cures aren’t always the most pleasant. Sometimes the sores themselves may seem better. Some are listed as natural herpes cures because they’re home remedies, but the ingredients are anything but natural.

Some people swear by the use of acetone nail polish remover. They use this on their face for oral herpes and some even use this as a genital herpes natural cure. Ouch! When used in the genital area, it is followed by cornstarch to keep the area dry all day. The nail polish remover is dabbed on with a q-tip. Never use acetone on broken skin or the mucus membrane. Be aware it can burn your skin.

A natural cure for all types of herpes is L-Lysine. While it isn’t really a cure for the herpes virus, it does control the outbreaks as most of the natural herpes cures do. The imbalance in the body between the intake of arginine and lysine activates the virus.

The more arginine you have the higher the potential that you’ll have an outbreak. Most herpes sufferers recognize the tingle that is the first tell-tale symptom and find that 2,000 to 3,000 mg of L-lysine three times a day for a day or two and then cutting the dose in half every day after, curtails it. Too much L-Lysine over long periods may damage the liver, so it’s best to save it for those times that you feel the outbreak coming.

Some people have natural cures for herpes that they swear by but they sound a little disgusting. One is preparation H if the blisters haven’t broken. The other is earwax. The herpes victim cleans their ears with a Q-tip and then smears the wax on the cold sore. It supposedly suppresses the further development of the sore.

An aside on the use of earwax is the reduction of chapped lips. The earwax doesn’t cure chapped lips; it just stops you from licking them so often.

Fresh cut garlic rubbed on the sores is an ancient cure for herpes. This method stings a bit. Apple cider vinegar mixed in water with a little baking soda and taken once a day may be a suppressant.

Many people find that applying hydrogen peroxide or hydrogen peroxide mixed with lysine, tea tree oil or DMSO (dimethyl sulfoxide) brings relief. Dimethyl sulfoxide is used as quicker way to deliver the hydrogen peroxide into the system. It is absorbed through the skin rapidly and makes its way into the body almost immediately without causing damage to the body. Subjects immediately tasted garlic or onions, immediately after contact with DMSO, which comes from the sulfoxide in it.

Even though these natural remedies show promise in the control of herpes, there are new studies that show there is hope of a true natural cure. Ozone therapy, oxygen therapy and increased oxygenation have proven promising as a natural cure for genital and oral herpes.
